The legendary pioneer of the Chicago blues scene Buddy Guy returns to London to perform at the Eventim Apollo, on Thursday 13th July, 2017.
One of the most exhilarating guitarists in the world, and still in powerful voice, Buddy’s 2015 album Born To Play Guitar debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top Blues Album chart and was Grammy nominated. The album, which was produced by Grammy Award winning producer/songwriter Tom Hambridge, and see’s Guy dominate every song, from the upbeat Thick Like Mississippi Mud to the thoughtful lament, Come Back Muddy. Guy once explained that Muddy Waters’ final request to him was “keep the damn blues alive”. He’s still doing just that.
Originally from Louisiana, he moved north to be influenced by Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters, and developed a passionate, driving guitar style that made him a hero for blues-rockers from Eric Clapton to Jimmy Page.
He is the recent recipient of the 2015 Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, his incredible career spans over 50 years with just as many albums released. Career highlights include 7 Grammy Awards, 35 Blues Music Awards, Kennedy Center Honors, NARM Chairman’s Award for Sustained Creative Achievement, Billboard Music Awards’ Century Award for distinguished artistic development, Presidential National Medal of Arts, and induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to name a few.
Buddy Guy is a genuine American treasure and one of the final surviving connections to an historic era in the country’s musical evolution. He keeps looking to the future of blue through his ongoing work with his young protégé Quinn Sullivan.
